Attention All Plein Air Artists:

This year the Plein Air Painters' U.S. Open will not be held as our energies are focused on making the 2012 Plein Air Painters' U.S. Open a truly FIRST CLASS Competition, Art Sale, and Live Auction.

So save the dates for 2012 -- August 21-25, 2012!

Here are a few of the many improvements for next year:

  • Significantly higher CASH PRIZES
    • A total of $8,000 to $10,000 in awards as a result of greater sponsorships
  • All day Art Sale under the BIG TENT
    • On the Village Green in downtown Coupeville
    • Open to greater tourist traffic
  • Quick Draw Demonstrations
    • On the historic Coupeville Waterfront and Front Street
    • Drawing more interest and attention to the Art Sale and Live Auction
  • Live Auction
    • Run by professional celebrity auctioneer John Curley
  • Greater advertising throughout the Puget Sound from Olympia to Seattle to Vancouver, BC

More opportunities for artists to paint with and learn from each other.

John CurleyJOHN CURLEY, AUCTIONEER:
John Curley swears he doesn't deserve the life that he has, and believes that if karma does exist he will be coming back the next time around as a dung beetle. Before that happens John has much work to do. He hosts his radio show on KIRO 97 point 3 weeknights from 7 to 10 pm. He serves as an elected official in the city of Sammamish as a city councilman. John is also President of John Curley Auctions. He auctioneers for 100 non-profits a year and helps to raise 2.3 million dollars a month. In his spare time Curley competes in International Ironman competitions and travels the country as a motivational speaker. He wears many hats and has many titles but what he likes best is when two very small people, that look a little bit like him, call him dad.
