"Painting with Passion", an Oil Painting Workshop
Doug Gorrell, Instructor
June 18-22, 2012 (9am-4pm)

Painting is an outward expression of an inward passion.  In this workshop, you will learn how to define and develop your passion for painting.  Painting is a lot like life.  It's the active process of living it that is important.  With painting, the results are a by-product of simple, time-honored techniques and ideas which translate ultimately, into more successful finishes."

Doug teaches both brush and pallet knife techniques. "I usually use a combination of the two in my own work, whether I'm painting a landscape, a still life, or a figurative piece. Each tool has its own unique qualities and applications.  Both create different and exciting results.   We will be painting the landscape (weather permitting) and the still life.  Whatever the subject matter, the most important thing is to be passionate about it!  Have fun with it! Eliminate unnecessary detail and focus on large simple shapes.  What to leave out of a painting is as important as what to put in."  Doug will demonstrate how to use proportion, contrast, and exaggeration to create a work of art.

As a child, Doug discovered his love of creating.  At the age of 13, he began painting in oils and fell in love with them. Doug has been painting and teaching painting workshops for over twenty years in the United States and in Europe. He resides with his wife Leslie and two Miniature Schnauzers Rembrandt and Tipper and a kitty named Grey, in North Little Rock, AR.
